According to Dr. Atefeh Abedini, Pulmonologist and Head of Sarcoidosis Clinic of Dr. Masih Daneshvari Hospital, the Sarcoidosis Research Center was first established in November 2013, at Dr. Masih Daneshvari Hospital and has been a part of the international community in the field of sarcoidosis diagnosis for two years, which operates, treats and tracks patients and is also known as the Sarcoidosis Disease Registration Center by the Ministry of Health.
Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown origin, in which small "granules" (granulomas) are formed from inflammatory tissue in the organs of the body and form larger nodules, which interferes with the normal function of the body, such as breathing. Mostly the lymphatic system, lung, liver, eyes, nose, muscles, heart, spleen, intestine, kidneys, testicles, nerves, joints, and brain by causing inflammation will involve that organ system. The causes of the disease are not fully understood. However, genetic factors and exposure to some environmental factors such as viruses and bacteria are the likely cause of the disorder
